Jumping and Style (JAS) Championships 2016

The popular British Eventing winter training series culminated in the 2016 final of the Baileys Jumping & Style (JAS) Championship on Sunday 21st February. Qualifiers are run around the country throughout January and February with the final taking place at at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire and being run in conjunction with Baileys Jump Training Championship on Saturday and an evening demonstration by 4* eventing rider Ruth Edge

The JAS competition sees combinations judged on style as well as technique; the style mark is converted to penalty points and added to any cross country or jumping penalties for the final score. The JAS Novice section win went to Worcestershire’s 14 year old Lydia Ward and her own Kiltroms Woodie Jumpit; the only competitor to not pick up any jumping or time penalties the pair finished on their winning style score of just 11 penalties.

The JAS Open final took to the main arena on Sunday afternoon with 21 year old Alicia Hawker from Wiltshire walking away with the title of Open Champion. Riding her own Nankin Des Ruettes, Alicia and 'Super Nonks' scored 10 penalties for style and picked up just four time penalties from the jumping phase to finish on a score of 14.
