Rescue Bears at Chatsworth Horse Trials

We’re not sure that we want to jump into freezing cold water to be rescued but we are looking forward to watching and cuddling the UK Rescue Bears at Chatsworth Horse Trials.

These canine lifesavers, a group of Newfoundland dogs, will be in action at the Dodson & Horrell Chatsworth International Horse Trials later this month jumping into the River Derwent to put their famous life-saving skills to the test.

Each day from Friday to Sunday, May 15-17, visitors will be able to watch close up as 20 dogs from charity display team UK Rescue Bears showcase their water rescue techniques (apparently displays are subject to weather conditions although you would think that a bit of rain wouldn’t stop these guys). With a typical bodyweight of around 75-90 kilos, a double waterproof coat and a full set of webbed feet, these canine lifeguards would give the Aussie Surf Lifesavers a run for their money but may be a bit hot in Australia

For those who don’t fancy getting soaked (us) you can still take a dog-drawn cart rides and an opportunity to meet, take a photo and even have a quick bear hug with the friendly companions.

Also for the first time The Sheep Show will be at the horse trials, bringing along nine different breeds of sheep, from Nobby The Norfolk Horn to Lenny the Lincoln Longwool, for a great mix of education and entertainment. The show will run four times a day on Saturday and Sunday and will feature sheep shearing, as well as the show highlight - a dancing sheep!

Did we mention there will be eventing too? Oh yes, that’s what we’re there for..............
