Ryan Wood, who left Australia in 2008 and is based with Phillip Dutton at True Prospect Farm in Pennsylvania, finished second in the CCI2* at the Fair Hill International Three Day Event this weekend. Riding Fernhill Classic, a 16.3h seven-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding, Ryan was lying equal 12th after the dressage and had a great cross country round on the testing Derek di Grazia cross country on Saturday to finish this phase in equal third. A clear show jumping round ensured a second place in this prestigious competition behind Alli Blyskal-Sacksen riding Sparrow’s Nio.
The National Young Horse Championship, which is awarded to the top-placed U.S. owned six- or seven-year-old, was also awarded to the Fernhill Classic Syndicate, owners of Fernhill Classic
Ryan also finished in ninth place riding Frankie while another Aussie Dom Schramm finished in 38th place on Cold Harbour (see videos below thanks to Jenni Autry)
The CCI3* was won by Jan Byyny and Inmidair (great name) on a score of 51.60. This was Sinead Halpin and Manoir de Carneville’s (Tate) first CCI3* ride back since Burghley 2012 but unfortunately the pair came unstuck on the cross country and parted company.
“Very frustrating day” said Sinead on Twitter “Tate is fine thank god and I banged my ankle a bit but nothing too major. Thanks for everyone’s help #Kickinon”
