The first ever indoor cross country competition was held in the Friends Arena at the Sweden International Horse Show on Thursday night. The large arena, which was packed with spectators, featured logs, water hazards and other cross-country obstacles as well as show jumping fences. The course, which was constructed in a day, was designed by the Stuttgart Indoor Derby course designer Gerd Heiber who brought several of the obstacles with him from the recent Stuttgart German Masters
Of the 13 obstacles to be jumped in 90 seconds, Fence 7 caused a few problems as you can see in the video below with Sir Mark Todd nearly demolishing Fence 3 afterwards! At the end of the evening the Kiwis took the team honours on a score of 215.78, Germany in second on 223.83, Great Britain in third on 250.51 and Sweden fourth on 310.14. Niklas Lindback restored local pride however by taking the individual honours with a clear round riding Mister Pooh in a time of 68.60, thereby winning the John Deere tractor which will come in very handy for his new yard
