Vicky Tuffs and Its Cooley - winners of the Five Year Old Championship at Osberton in 2015
One of the new initiatives by British Eventing in 2015, the Young Horse Eventing Training days, is set to return in 2016.
The BE Young Horse Training aims to improve the preparation of young horses starting to compete in British Eventing competitions so that they can reach their full potential within the sport.
Open to young horses aged between four and seven years at all stages, the training is delivered by BE Accredited Coaches at sessions throughout the UK. The training days will begin with a combined flatwork and show jumping session in small groups while the afternoon sessions consist of cross country practice. The training groups have horses matched by ability and not age, giving both horses and riders the opportunity to get the best from the day.
There are currently six training sessions scheduled with more dates to be added later in the year. The sessions provide the ideal preparation for those who are looking to compete in the KBIS British Eventing Young Horse four and five year old qualifiers in 2016 and potentially qualify for the KBIS British Eventing Young Horse Championships at Osberton in October.
In 2015, a new initiative was launched at Osberton - The Young Event Horse Grand Slam which provides a total prize pool of £50,000 to any British bred SHB(GB) passported horse that finishes in the first three of the 5 year old Championships, then subsequently in the first three of the 6 and 7 year old Championships at the British Eventing Young Horse Championships in following years.
In 2015 the Five Year Old Championship went to Vicky Tuffs from Monmouthshire, riding the KWPN papered Its Cooley with Piggy French finishing second and third on Ballycanu and Carsten of Westoak – how will they go in 2016?
