As soon as the eventing season in UK is over and horses roughed off, many British based Australian riders jump on a plane to come ‘home’ and enjoy all the good things Australia has to offer – with the sun being right up there in the number one spot!
Christopher Burton and his girlfriend, Bek Thompson, are doing just that before jumping back on a plane in January to face the cold British winter. As soon as they get back the horses will come back into work and many hours will be spent sitting on fresh horses, wearing so many clothes that even if you wanted to move you would find it impossible. I’m sure as Chris hacks down the Dorset lanes with no feeling in his feet he will be casting his mind back to hot days spent in Australia where horses were worked in the mornings and afternoons would be spent dipping in and out of the pool ~~~~
But back to reality!
Chris has now been a British based Australian rider for around 18 months. When he originally went over it was with the plan of getting selected for the London Olympics. That plan worked out well and we were interested to find out if the bright lights of British Eventing had convinced him that he should stay there longer than he had possibly intended.
Chris Burton and Holstein Park Leilani made it to the London Olympics - what will be their next big event?
We caught up with Chris (and Bek) at Berrima Horse Trials to find out what the future holds in store for this talented Queensland boy.
