Some of the world’s finest horses and riders - 129 riders and 176 horses from 27 countries - are competing for a total of EUR 1.4 million in prize money at CHI AL SHAQAB, this week. 79 of the horses, among them several Olympic winners, have been brought via two special freighters by Qatar Airways Cargo, on the occasion of CHI AL SHAQAB 2014, the only CHI (Concours Hippique International) competition in the Middle East and Asia. Alongside Show Jumping, Dressage and Endurance, the competition features Vaulting for the first time in the Middle East.
So where is this competition taking place, you may be wondering? It is in Doha, Qatar and when Libby law was invited to attend this exotic location we couldn’t resist taking a peek.
The competition takes place from 10th – 15th March and has already got underway with the Vaulting. One of the disciplines to feature at this year’s Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, this really is a display of gymnastics on horseback and the athleticism of these vaulters never cease to amaze us. Take a look at a few shots so far from the venue and the Vaulting and Libby will be bringing us a summary gallery across the disciplines and behind the scenes at the end of this week’s competition
