The FEI bidding process for the re-allocation of the 2021 FEI Eventing European Championship has now closed with three venues submitting proposals
The Board agreed to reopen the bid process for the FEI Eventing European Championship 2021, following numerous requests from a number of areas including top athletes, Michael Jung and Ingrid Klimke. The bid process opened on 18 December 2020 and National Federations and Organisers had until 15 January 2021 to apply to the FEI.
Montelibretti in Italy, Avenches in Switzerland and Boekelo in the Netherlands are the three contenders for the Championship, which was cancelled when the organisers that had put in expressions of interest to host the Championships subsequently withdrew from the process
Montelibretti, home to the country’s Military Riding Centre based on the historic Montemaggiore estate, about 30km northeast of Rome, has proposed the dates of 23rd – 26th September. The venue also hosts three events on the FEI calendar but this would be an additional date
The bid by Avenches in Switzerland was supported by Michael Jung when he raised the issue of the Championships late last year. The National Equestrian Institute of Avenches is a 142-hectare centre entirely dedicated to equestrian sports organises more than fifty events a year including two international level eventing competitions. Their proposed dates of 23rd – 26th September coincide with the dates of their already scheduled CCI4* competition in September
Boekelo in the Netherlands is well known as the traditional host of the final leg of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup. The popular party venue has proposed the same dates as its Nations Cup slot of 7th – 10th October
The FEI Board will take a decision on the allocation of this Championship at its March 2021 teleconference.
