“I really just came here to complete” said Annie Sandell after winning the BE90 Scottish Championship at the Land Rover Blair Castle International Horse Trials on board the 15.1h Welsh cob pony Murrah Hall Midnight Maelstrom
Annie won on her dressage score of 32.30 in a thrilling finish as the combinations headed off on the cross country in reverse order. The overnight leader, Cameron Swales on Machno Showtime, retired towards the end of the course and time penalties for Emma Little on Alecon and Gillian Edward on Benny Station put them into second and third places respectively but it was Annie Sandell who moved to the top of the podium with her double clear cross country ride
Despite her trim figure, it then turned out that the winning rider was actually six months pregnant, but the quote of the day came from Annie’s mum, who declared that this win was almost more emotional than having a grandchild!
A quick glance at the watch but the time is good for Rose Macpherson and HHS Canya
In the BE100, Rose Macpherson led from start to finish on HHS Canya to give her the second win in a row at the Scottish Championships. Riding HHS Canya Rose finished on a score of 25.3 ahead of Eilidh Macauley riding Rockon (28.7) and Keely Gordon riding Thunder VII (30.5)
Rose is now hoping that HHS Canya will be the horse to take her back to International level eventing
Second place for Eilidh Macauley riding Rockon (above) and third, as well as best hat, for Keely Gordon (below)
