Julia and Chipmunk FRH - 7th in the CIC3* at Luhmuhlen 2017
In 2016 Julia Krajewski’s young horse Chipmunk FRH tackled his first CCI3* at Strzegom, Poland, coming home with a win, and in 2017 he very nearly did it once again on a much tougher course at Blenheim Palace.
Julia and Chipmunk led after the dressage and cross country phases on their dressage score of 33.4 but sadly two rails in the show jumping saw them drop to third place. However this now 10 year old by Contendro I has all the hallmarks of a future superstar
Bred by Dr Hilmer Meyer-Kulenkampff, Chipmunk FRH went to Julia as a four and a half year old and started his career on a high, winning the Bundeschampionat to be crowned the best 5 Year Old Event Horse in Germany.
Since then he has turned in some very good results at international level competition, including some fabulously low dressage scores such as a 27.8 at Kreuth to win the CIC2* and a 29.2 at Weisbaden for second place (behind Ingrid Klimke on her top horse Horseware Hale Bob) in the CIC3* in 2016.
Double clear on cross country at Blenheim Palace
He has only incurred cross country jumping faults twice in his career and they were at two consecutive events; Le Lion d’Angers in 2015 and Luhmuhlen in early 2016 but since then Chipmunk FRH seems to have really grasped the concept. During seven 2*/3* level competitions in 2017 he didn’t place below eighth and his double clear cross country run at Blenheim puts him firmly in the spotlight for great things in 2018
“Normally it’s quite hard work on him because he’s a big horse, he’s 1.76m, and that’s why I’ve chosen this course, because he’s got enough space to gallop, really open up and relax a bit then I could take him back for the fences” Julia told us at Blenheim (listen to the full interview here) “It’s his first CCI3* with such a hilly track but he kept jumping and picked himself up to gallop again and again. He really wanted to do everything right”
“I’m really proud of him and so happy for the team and the owners. The owners are also the breeders and they have come here for their summer holiday so it’s great to have their support”
We spoke to Dr Hilmer Meyer-Kulenkampff (above) who was proudly watching his horse be washed down after the cross country and he told us a little more about the horse he bred from a dam line (Havanna by Heraldik xx) that has been in his family for over 100 years
While Julia’s 2017 Luhmuhlen CCI4* winner Samourai Du Thot is only 12 years old and we are expecting to see him in top form once again in 2018,keep an eye out for his stable mate with the cute name, impressive breeding and a big future – Chipmunk FRH
What a mover!
