Ros Canter and Lordships Graffalo take second place at Hartpury International 2022
Lordships Graffalo, bred by the Lordships Stud at Writtle College in Essex, took the Wide Awake Trophy at the 2022 British Eventing Awards celebration
Presented to the breeder of the British bred, owned and ridden horse gaining the highest number of points, Lordships Graffalo, ridden by Ros Canter and owned by Michelle Saul, had an outstanding year of competition
“’Walter’ has really come of age this year” says Ros of the big 17h gelding, who started his 2022 international season with a steady run around Thoresby International before heading to Badminton Horse Trials
The 10-year-old by Grafenstolz out of Cornish Queen came up through 4* level during the Covid pandemic and, although he may have been a little surprised by all the crowds at his CCI5* debut at Badminton, he rose to the occasion by producing a second-place finish.
They also took second place in the CCI4*-S at the NAF Five Star Hartpury International (see video above) and were selected for the British team at the World Championships at Pratoni, where Ros very nearly added another World podium finish to her resume
Ros and Lordships Graffalo finished on the same score as individual bronze medallists Tim Price and Falco; however, as they were a little faster on country (and therefore further from the optimum time), they had to settle for fourth place
Lordships Graffalo is not the only star of Ros’ stable by the dam, Cornish Queen. The 13-year-old mare, Pencos Crown Jewel owned by Annie Makin and Kate James, is also by Cornish Queen and has also been an award winner this year, taking the overall win of this year’s EHOA Members League.
