Oliver Townend will be back at Burgham in 2017
An Eventful Life will be filming all competitors on cross country at Burgham on March 24th - 26th 2017 - find out more here
Burgham International Horse Trials is Northumberland’s only international event – and is fast becoming one of the best in Britain.
Now in its fourth year as an international, Burgham will host two events in 2017 – one in March (24th-26th) and one in July (27th-30th). The premier class at each will be the CIC3* - won last year by Oliver Townend, the UK’s number one event rider.
Entries for the March event open on 17 February.
Martyn Johnson, Burgham’s Event Director, said: “We are really excited about the 2017 season at Burgham. Tickets are now on sale for our March event, and we are expecting entries from many of Britain’s top riders. Saturday (March 25th) is cross-country day and it’s a great chance to see the world’s best in action over our spectacular cross-country courses.
“We are constantly improving our facilities and what we can offer spectators; our events are a great day out for families with good shopping opportunities and a fantastic range of locally-produced food on offer.
“Our July event will be something of a festival of the horse – as well as the international eventing competitions, there are affiliated showjumping classes and Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse qualifiers. Our second event will once again be the fourth leg of the Shearwater Insurance Tri-Star Grand Slam, demonstrating Burgham’s importance in the eventing calendar.”
Oliver Townend said: “Burgham is one of my favourite events. I love coming to Northumberland; it’s a beautiful venue, the event itself is fantastic for both horses and riders, and we always receive an extremely warm welcome. I’ll definitely be back this year.”
Burgham’s chosen charity for 2017 is Daft As A Brush Cancer Patient Care, a local charity which provides transport free of charge for those undergoing treatment for cancer.
Burgham showcases the very best of top-level eventing, but also provides fantastic opportunities for those at a lower level to compete against the stars of the sport. For the first time, Burgham will be running a CIC* (international eventing’s introductory level) at the July event, which is likely to be a seasonal target for many local riders.
