The draw is out for Burghley, the cross country preview is up and we’re started to get excited!
Tim Price tops and tails the draw, first out on Bango and finishing the day on Ringwood Sky Boy with Xavier Faer in the middle, drawn at 42, making it a busy day for the defending champion. Sadly, his wife Jonelle has withdrawn Classic Moet due to a small injury incurred during their 4* win at the Festival of British Eventing (watch their cross country ride here) but she will be bringing Faerie Dianimo
There are a host of riders coming over from the USA including recent Pan Am gold medallist Doug Payne and Australia’s Dom Schramm riding Bolytair B. Only two riders are competing from Australia this year with Isabel English riding Feldale Mouse joining Dom as the second Australian representative after the withdrawal of Chris Burton and Bill Levett
Several of the British riders heading to the FEI European Championships are also listed for Burghley so we’ll have to wait and see who finally competes on which horse but, even so, there are a host of big names such as Pippa Funnell, Izzy Taylor, Gemma Tattersall and of course last year’s runner-up at Burghley and this year’s Badminton winner, Piggy French on Vanir Kamira
Can Piggy beat another former Burghley winner, Oliver Townend, who brings Ballaghmor Class, Ulises and Cooley Master Class (although the latter is likely to be withdrawn as he is Oliver’s selected horse for the Europeans)? We’ll have to wait and see but we’ll be bringing updates regarding the final entries in the lead up to the big event and we’ll be bringing daily you daily coverage during the event and some fabulous footage afterwards
