Caroline Price and Spice Sensation
43 horses were presented to the Ground Jury this morning at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials after two horses – the USA’s Captain Jack ridden by Savannah Fulton and Ireland’s BLM Diamond Delux ridden by Sarah Ennis – withdrew overnight
Four horses were sent to the holding box, two of which withdrew before re-inspection including Caroline Powell’s Onwards And Upwards and Louisa Milne Home’s King Eider
There was a tense moment when Izzy Taylor’s Trevidden, in third place after cross country, was sent to the Hold Box but was accepted on re-presenting. Sadly the other horse sent to the Hold Box, Dee Hankey’s Chequers Playboy, was eliminated.
The first twenty riders have ridden around ridden around Richard Jeffery’s show jumping course this morning with just one combination producing a double clear round; Caroline Price and the 12 year old Spice Sensation completed Burghley on a high with a lovely clear round in the atmospheric arena
Britain’s Georgie Spence also produced a clear jumping round but just a fraction of time gave them one penalty and they top the leader board at the lunch break
The last show jumping round for Andrew and The Blue Frontier
Australia’s Andrew Hoy and Warren Lamperd both competed this morning with Andrew’s The Blue Frontier picking up 16 penalties and Warren 14 penalties.
The 16 year old The Blue Frontier, owned by Barbara Keller, will now retire to a life of hunting with David Redvers of the Ledbury Hunt but Andrew has some lovely young horses such as Right To Play’s Jack Sparrow, also owned by Barbara, coming through the ranks – we’ll have more about that coming up soon
Warren Lamperd’s Silvia didn’t have the perfect preparation coming into this year’s Burghley but he hopes that she will be back again in 2018
