Seven New Zealand entries are now listed on the 2024 Defender Burghley Horse Trials as entries continue to come in.
Jesse Campbell riding Colley Lafitte, Monica Spencer riding Artist, Jonelle Price riding Grappa Nera, Tim Price riding Vitali, Coup De Coeur Dudevin and Viscount Viktor have joined Lauren Innes on the latest update to entries.
The newly crowned British Champions at Hartpury International, Emily King riding Valmy Biats, are also now listed as is Paris 2024 Olympic team silver medallist, Nicolas Touzaint riding Absolut Gold HDZ and Maryland CCI5* winner Austin O’Connor riding Colorado Blue.
Australia’s Sophia Hill is among the early entries for the 2024 Defender Burghley Horse Trials (5th – 8th September 2024). Sophia and her off the track thoroughbred Humble Glory left Australia earlier this year with Burghley their big aim for the season and they have had a terrific preparation in the intervening months at Bramham International (watch our interview with Sophia here) and Bicton, finishing on her dressage score on both occasions.
New Zealand’s Lauren Innes is another early entry – continuing to ‘live the dream’ as she told us at Badminton – and we’re expecting to see other Kiwi entries, including US-based Monica Spencer.
Freshly minted Paris 2024 bronze medallists Toshiyuki Tanaka riding Jefferson and his teammate Ryuzo Kitijima on his non-Paris horse, Feroza Nieuwmoed will be competing at the famous event for the first time and are listed along with Britain’s Zara Phillips, Ireland’s runner-up at Badminton 2024, Lucy Latta and RCA Patron Saint and several US riders who have already thrown their hat in the ring. Defender Burghley Director Martyn Johnson says that “An Olympic year is often a good year for the CCI5* entry at Burghley as lots of the top international riders are based in Europe for the summer with their strings, and we are expecting a strong presence from nations such as the USA and, for the first time, Japan.
We also look forward to welcoming the very best British riders, of course, such as last year’s Burghley winner Oliver Townend and 2023 European team gold and individual silver medallist Kitty King.”
