Ride for Thaïs Chaman Dumontceau, the Paris 2024 team silver medal winning horse ridden by France’s Stéphane Landois, has been to sold to a young English rider.
Stéphane took over the ride from Thaïs Meheust, who sadly died in a fall on cross country accident in 1999, going on to fulfil the young rider’s dream of competing at an Olympic Games on her grey gelding, Chaman Dumontceau.
Riding for the Thaïs Meheust Foundation, set up by the Meheust family in her name, Stéphane also won the individual title of the Nations Cup CCI4* at Chatsworth International Horse Trials in 2023 and took sixth place individually at the 2023 European Eventing Championships at Haras Le Pin.
Paris 2024 was a visibly emotional experience for the 30-year-old rider Stéphane, who coached Thaïs and referenced her wishes when talking to the press after each phase of competition at Versailles.
It has also been an emotional journey for the family of Thaïs, who made the decision to sell their French country property in November and have now announced the sale of the 12-year-old grey gelding Chaman Dumontceau
The Thaïs Meheust Foundation say that “We felt the need to close this book that is both so painful, so strong, so extraordinary and so paradoxical. Chaman is sold to England and will continue under the saddle of a young rider.
Stéphane was an exceptional rider, professional and respectful. He entered the light, making the Thai star shine ever brighter. We will be eternally grateful to him. He will write his own story, that of a great champion. Have a safe trip BB Chaman”
