Come behind the scenes at CHI De Geneve
The current Swiss National Eventing Champion Robin Godel delighted the local crowd with a fast, clear round at Palexpo on Friday night that earned him the win and a nice Christmas bonus of 5,143 Swiss francs (approximately Au$7,500)
Riding Grandeur de Lully CH he produced a superb round, finishing a whisker outside the ideal time. France’s Karim Florent Laghouag and Punch de l'Esques, winners at Le Mans last week, had to settle for second place while another Swiss rider, Nadja Minder riding Aquila B, took third place
The defending champions, Cathal Daniels riding Alcatraz, winners in 2019 (the show was cancelled in 2020) were putting in a speedy round until they jumped the wide part of an apex and Alcatraz put his landing gear down too early, resulting in Cathal rolling off so that his horse could disentangle himself
Australia’s Andrew Hoy riding Creevagh Cooley and Germany’s Michael Jung riding Kilcandra Ocean Power had less eventful rides, both producing masterclasses in Indoor Cross Country riding but weren’t fast enough to be on the podium with Michael taking sixth place and Andrew (watch HeadCam footage of Andrew Hoy's ride here) in 11th
The cross country course designed by Peter Hasenböhler and Ernst Beer went across the two halls of the Palexpo and you can watch the individual rides of each combination here (click the arrow on the right hand side of the Rider Results)
