The FEI Board took a series of key decisions on allocation, cancellation, and reopening of bids for FEI Championships at its videoconference meeting this week.
Among them was the decision to reopen the bid process for the FEI Eventing European Championship 2021 following numerous requests from a number of European Eventing stakeholders, including National Federations and Athletes, and with the full support of the European Equestrian Federation and the FEI Eventing Committee.
In late November Michael Jung openly called for a re-think on the European Championships, pointing out that Avenches in Switzerland was willing to run the event, and FEI Rider of the Decade Ingrid Klimke has recently joined calls on social media for a review of the cancellation of the Championships
The Senior European Eventing Championships run every second year and were last held in Luhmuhlen in 2019.
However, it was decided there would be no FEI European Eventing Championships in 2021 as the organisers that had put in expressions of interest to host the Championships subsequently withdrew from the process. The Championships were originally scheduled to take place at Le Haras Du Pin, the location for the dressage and cross country during the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, from 11th – 15th August 2021
The bid process will now re-open on 18 December 2020 and National Federations and Organisers have until 15 January 2021 to apply to the FEI. The FEI Board will take a decision on the allocation of this Championship at its March 2021 teleconference.
