Blue skies graced the opening day of the Barefoot Estates Burnham Market International Horse Trials. BE100 competitors were first out, and Ipswich based Leilia Paske claimed the under 18 section riding Fernhill First Friend. There were also wins for Eleanor Hope (Aylesbury), Simon Grieve (Tilton on the Hill), Jamie Atkinson (Langley Park) and Gaby Cooke (Oakham).
Friday's two novice sections were won by Izzy Taylor from Banbury riding Legacy and Australian rider Andrew Hoy (Melton Mowbray) on Right To Plays Jack Sparrow.
In the International classes defending champion Oliver Townend is currently lying in third place after dressage in the CIC3*, riding previous winner Armada, although there are still many tests to come – including three more for Oliver. Sweden's Hedvig Wik is the current leader. Germany's Pia Munker tops the CIC2* table half way through the dressage.
The action kicks off tomorrow in the dressage arenas at 8am, show jumping starts at 8.45am and the first horse sets off across country at 9.30am. William Fox-Pitt, regular British team member, is making his eventing comeback after a horrendous fall last October; he will be show jumping between 10.20 and 11.10 and on the cross country course between 11.30 and 12.30.
