Of course, we’re always impressed by the rides we show on our winners’ videos but this one is pretty amazing by any standards

British eventing rider Matthew Wright has been riding since he was 18 months old, has been a member of Junior, Young Rider and Senior European Championship teams and has ridden around six Badminton and Burghley Horse Trials, so during his career he has certainly taken a few tumbles, brushed himself off and ‘got back on the horse’

Which is exactly what happened at Burnham Market (2) recently, as Matthew explains on his Facebook page

“A week ago, I had a fall on cross country at Burnham Market. I was a bit sore but got up to ride three more and win the class, on Monday we went to Hickstead with nexgen, I rode and also jumped in two classes... sore all the time so got an X-Ray on Friday - leg is broken! Top of the tibia but on the other leg this time!!”

Indeed Matthew won the Novice Section P riding the six-year-old mare Caunton First Class, finishing on their dressage score of 27 and with a broken tibia. This is their winning cross country round with Matthew riding with a 'sore leg'!
