Eventing in full swing at Richmond (1) in May 2019
“We are delighted to announce that after further treatment & procedures performed by Clevedale Vets Equine, all horses are now infection free & we are safe to re-open to the public!”
An announcement by Richmond Horse Trials on October 2nd marked the end of a difficult period for the Richmond Equestrian Centre in North Yorkshire after a case of Strangles was discovered on the property about two weeks before Richmond Horse Trials (2) was scheduled to take place on August 31st & September 1st 2019
Organisers of the event and relatively new owners of Breckenborough Farm where the Equestrian Centre is based and the Horse Trials take place, Andrew and Abigail Turnbull have only had their feet under the table for a short while as this is a new venture for them, but they have big plans for the venue and event.
However, when Strangles was discovered on the property, they had no hesitation in locking down the facility for the good of the equestrian community and waiting until they received the final all-clear on October 2nd
It is now full steam ahead for next year, starting with their first ever Hunter Trial at Richmond on Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th October (full details can be found on Richmond Horse Trials Facebook page) and Richmond (1) in May 2020
We filmed at Richmond (1) and were meant to be filming at Richmond (2) Horse Trials this year but, as the event was cancelled, we dropped by for a chat with Abigail and Andrew to find out more about the impact and management of strangles, their plans for the future (something big in the paddock we hear!) and how they hope to build Richmond Horse Trials into an event for the local community as well as a top class British Eventing venue
