Greta Mason - an enviable choice

While many of Australia’s up and coming young riders were competing at the Australian International 3 Day Event in the CIC2* Bates Young Rider Championships, one young Australian rider was many miles away on the other side of the world

On our recent trip to the UK we saw the Australian flag against Greta Mason’s name at several events and we finally caught up with her at Allerton Park Horse Trials where she finished third in the Intermediate Section I on Cooley For Sure and was on track for a place in the Intermediate Section J on Tinka’s Pearl if it were not for that dratted last fence!

“It certainly taught me to never stop riding until you’re over the last!” says Greta

Greta has a stable full of young horses at home near Stamford but the two she competed at Allerton Park are her most experienced and both are by famous sires. The 15.2h seven year old chestnut mare Tinka’s Pearl is by Tinka’s Boy while Cooley For Sure, previously ridden by Greta’s brother, is by Ramiro B

Since then the nine year old Cooley For Sure has also placed fifth in the Open Intermediate U21 at Little Downham and they tackled their first CIC2* start at Aldon International just before the end of the season

19 year old Greta’s parents are both English but she was born in Australia, putting her in the enviable position of being able to ride for either nation, a dream she hopes to fulfil one day.
