Italy to receive Paris 2024 team berth at Boekelo
Updated 22nd September
It has been a good week for Italian eventing.
Following their first gold medal at the FEI European Eventing Championships for Young Riders and Juniors, they have now secured a team berth at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with the confirmed Master List of entries for the FEI Eventing Nations Cup Final at Boekelo in October (click here for list).
As reported below, Italy was the main contender for the team qualification spot for Paris 2024 through the FEI Nations Cup Series leaderboard. Now that entries are confirmed and Spain will not be contesting the final, Italy will receive the team berth for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
“I couldn't be happier” says Team Manager selector Katherine Ferguson Lucheschi on the Italian Equestrian Federation website “I would like to immediately congratulate and thank the entire Team for this success that we have achieved after a year of great work, together with the Management, the Sports Direction, to the Team Leader Giacomo Della Chiesa, to the team veterinarian Dr. Marco Eleuteri and the federal offices whose support is fundamental.
We have experienced an exciting, challenging season and today we share this beautiful result. There have been seven very intense Nations Cup stages and the eighth one we will take part in in Boekelo will be so too”
“This is a starting point, in 2024 we will prepare ourselves as best we can to arrive in Paris in good shape” says FISE Sports Director Francesco Girardi
“It will be a challenging Olympics in France and therefore certainly with an extremely technical cross country course. We are happy for this goal, which we had all set for ourselves together and obviously now we have immediately had a bigger one: in Paris 2024 we are aiming for a prestigious result".
Teams for Boekelo as at 21st September
Entries are being confirmed for the FEI Eventing Nations Cup Final 2023, to be held at Boekelo (NED) from 5th – 8th October 2023.
Australia, USA, Britain and Italy have confirmed entries for the event that will not only decide the winner of the 2023 FEI Eventing Nations Cup Series but also one of the last three team qualification spots available for Paris 2024.
Belgium currently holds the Series lead (600 points) with Italy in second place (440), the Netherlands in third (415) and Spain in fourth (395).
Both Belgium and the Netherlands qualified for Paris 2024 at the FEI Eventing European Championships at Haras Le Pin but Italy and Spain have yet to qualify and will be in hot pursuit of the team berth.
