Celebrations at Strzegom

Ludwig and King Bob - CICO3* winners

It was a great day for Ludwig Svennerstal at Strzegom, winning the CICO3* individual competition on his 18 year old King Bob who now looks a certainty for the Swedish team in Rio.

The individual CICO3* had all the ingredients a great grand final needs to have. Ludwig and Michael Jung, both with two horses in top 10 positions, showed that the competition truly is not over until the last rider hits the finish line. Michael was the second last to ride on fischerTakinou and his clear round put plenty of pressure on Ludwig to do the same to win but Ludwig held his nerve for his first 3* win.  Britain’s Ros Canter on Allstar B also produced a clear round to finish in third place.

You can see the winner’s interview with Ludwig and watch his show jumping round here

Michael Jung also finished in fourth place on fischerRocana FST but it looks as if fischerTakinou is the one for Rio for Michael and the German team

Britain's Ros Canter and Allstar B finished third (above) and Italy's Pietro Roman riding Barraduff (below) finished seventh

The FEI Nations Cup podium - Great Britain (gold), Italy (silver) and Belgium (bronze)

Ros Canter was not only on the podium for the Individual honours but also as part of the gold-winning Nations Cup team. The all-girl team of Ros, Izzy Taylor on KBIS Briarlands Matilda (sixth), Laura Collett on Cooley Again (13th) and Holly Woodhead (16th), riding Fernhill Facetime at only their fifth competition, won the fourth leg of the 2016 FEI Nations Cup on a combined score of 160,60 with Italy in second place (173,90) and Belgium (238,70) in third. We'll let them tell you about their time in Poland .....

Earlier in the day, Italy’s Stefano Brecciaroli and Roulette B had secured the win on a score of 50,10 with just one time fault in a class where clear rounds were few and far between.

The Nordic riders ended up changing their positions in the top four with Denmark´s Irene Mia Hastrup, picking up 12 penalties in second place (61,10) on Constantin M and Sweden´s William Nilsson Fryer also dropping a few rails in third (74,50). Lissa Green riding Malin Head Clover produced one of only three clear rounds of this class – a very good effort from the young British rider – finishing in eighth place

Roulette B is one of the horses nominated with Stefano for Rio and this win will certainly have done their selection prospects no harm

In the CCI2* and after a nerve-racking show jumping phase Germany's Beeke Jankowski, second after the cross country, moved ahead of the Netherlands' Elaine Pen to take the win with a clear round and France's François Pons riding Siam Taleyrandie finished third

Next year the FEI European Eventing Championship takes place at Strzegom from August 17th-20th 2017
