Lea Siegl (AUT) rides Van Helsing on cross country
The Netherlands, currently in third place of the 2023 FEI Eventing Nations Cup Series, has moved into the lead of the Nations Cup team competition at Strzegom Horse Trials after the cross country phase.
The Dutch team finished on a combined score of 116.6 to take the lead from Germany when Sanne de Jong riding Enjoy and Janneke Boonzaaijer riding ACSI Champ de Tailleur moved into third and fourth places individually, and Merel Blom-Hulsman riding Chinuk also finished in the top 10.
The overnight leaders from Germany dopped from contention when Vanessa Bölting had a fall, and Sophie Leube was eliminated after three run-outs, dropping them to eighth place.
The USA still maintain their second place (141.6) and Austria is now in third (144.1)
Austria’s Lea Siegl riding Van Helsing P also moved into the individual lead on a score of 33.3 after completing cross country nine seconds faster than yesterday’s leader Caroline Pamukcu (USA) with HSH Blake (35.8)
Caroline is now in second place, just 0.1 penalties ahead of Sanne de Jong heading into the final show jumping phase.
“It was quite fun, Van Helsing was in a good mood, he was galloping very fast” said Lea Siegl after cross country “Some parts were a bit difficult, and it was not an easy course. Sometimes you had to take the horse out of the rhythm and do some sharp turns, that made it demanding, but overall, I’m very happy with my horse and how he managed it. I’m very thankful for what he does for me every time I ride him in cross-country”
After an eventful cross country for the 4*-L, Michael Jung still holds the lead riding Kilcandra Ocean Power (44,7) and Switzerland’s Felix Vogg is the new leader of the 3*L
