Nicola Wilson back on top

Nicola Wilson and One Two Many

It hadn’t been the best of seasons so far for Yorkshire’s Nicola Wilson but things certainly started to look up at Houghton Hall this weekend. Nicola, who had a fall at Chatsworth recently from Bulana, won the CICO3* class on One Two Many (36.3) and was also third on Annie Clover (41.3)

Since her falls Nicola has been receiving treatment at the Jack Berry House at Malton and, thanks to their care and the support of many around her she was able to put in these top performances despite the fact that ‘If you had asked me last week if I’d be riding at Houghton, I would have said, definitely not, I was far too sore’

Nicola started well with her two Irish Sport Horses with One Two Many second after the dressage and Annie Clover fifth, both horses then jumped clear in the show jumping phase and produced foot perfect rounds in Sunday’s cross country phase. Annie Clover went first, picking up 1.2 time penalties but on her second ride, Nicola timed it perfectly

“I was very determined but I’m still a little bit sore from my fall and I think that when you are carrying a few aches and pains you do just ride a little bit guarded. I think with her (Annie Clover) I was three seconds over the time but she gave me a wonderful, wonderful ride. She was ‘Come on mum, let’s go for it’, which was an amazing feeling but at the beginning I was probably riding a little bit more with my brain than my instinct”

Nicola’s win of the class has also put in her in the running for the Shearwater Insurance Tri-Star Grand Slam with the two remaining legs of the competition being hosted at Hopetoun International and Burgham International where Nicola has been very successful in the past
