Piggy French has been on a roll since returning to the saddle this year following the birth of her son Max and has now scored her first two international wins at the Saracen Horse Feed Houghton International Horse Trials on Cooley Monsoon and Morswood
The nine year old gelding Cooley Monsoon, owned by Jennifer Saunders, had Novice wins early in the season at Oasby and Burnham Market then finished fifth in the CIC1* at Chatsworth, had another Novice win at Rockingham and has now topped it off with his first CCI1* win at Houghton International. Piggy and Cooley Monsoon (aptly known as Eddie) led from the start with a dressage score of 40.4 and finished on the same score, to the delight of both rider and owner
“This is amazing for Jennifer because the horse is still inexperienced,” said Piggy. “He's always shown potential, but he's still learning his job. I came here hoping for a top 10 finish, and thinking top five if all went really well, so I'm delighted.”
Piggy also led the CCI2* throughout, riding Morswood to finish on her dressage score of 40.7, ahead of Laura Collett on Dacapo and Gemma Tattersall riding Billy Senora. Morswood has had an international win previously, winning the CIC1* at Ballendenisk in 2015 before Piggy took some time off, but this is his first 2* win
