The entries for Les 5 Etoiles de Pau 2024 are published with 80 combinations lining up to tackle the only CCI5* in France from 24th – 27th October.

For once, it isn’t the home country with the largest number of entries as, although France has nine combinations listed, Britain has a large contingent making its way across the Channel. Australia has three entries, New Zealand nine and two from the USA.

33 entries from Britain

Three British World Champions are heading to Pau with reigning champion Yasmin Ingham riding Rehy DJ, Zara Tindall riding Class Affair and Ros Canter bringing two in MHS Seventeen and last year’s Pau winner, Izilot DHI, who retired on course at Defender Burghley in September.

Oliver Townend will be doing a quick turnaround from the MARS Maryland CCI5* at Fair Hill, where he has Ballaghmor Class competing, and will be busy if he rides all the three of his current entries at Pau with Kentucky winner Cooley Rosalent plus two 5* first-timers in Crazy Du Loir and En Taro Des Vernier.

World Number One Tom McEwen has two entries in Brookfield Quality and MHS Brown Jack, Piggy March will be competing the stallion Halo, Pippa Funnell brings MCS Maverick and Emily King is also in the strong British line-up with Valmy Biats, who finished fourth at Badminton but retired on cross country at Burghley this year.

Australian and New Zealand entries

Two UK-based Australian combinations, Sammi Birch riding Finduss PFB and Isabel (Bella) English riding Cil Dara Dallas will be joined by Samantha Cesnik riding Graftango, who has made the trip from Australia. Samantha and her partner Chris Height will be splitting their time between Australia and the UK in the foreseeable future, with Sam having her first 5* on overseas soil at Pau and hoping to follow it up with a start at Badminton in the spring.

World Number Two Tim Price riding Jarillo will be one of nine combinations from New Zealand with Badminton winner Caroline Powell riding CBI Aldo and 5* first-timer High Time, Sam Lissington also bringing forward two in Lord Seekonig and Ricker Ridge Sooty GNZ, James Avery riding MBF Connection, Tayla Mason riding Centennial and Clarke Johnstone on his Paris 2024 horse, Menlo Park.

14 nations taking part

Pau has its first Chinese entry this year with Chinese Olympian Alex Hua Tian riding Chicko while Boyd Martin and Will Coleman will be representing the USA; Boyd has two horses listed in Fedarman B and Miss Lulu Herself and Will will be riding his Aachen winner Off The Record.

14 nations are taking part with other entries from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden – view the full list of entries here
