Bettina Hoy - German Eventing Champion

The show jumping phase of the CIC3* Meßmer Trophy and German Championship at Luhmuhlen certainly proved to be exciting. But Bettina Hoy (GER) and Seigneur Medicott (26.30) held their nerves and went clear in the final phase of the event to finish on their phenomenal dressage score in the CIC3* Meßmer Trophy and German Championship. Michael Jung (GER) with Star Connection (35.60) and Sandra Auffarth (GER) with Opgun Louvo and 36.20 penalties followed suit with clear rounds for second and third places.

The show jumping brought about a few changes in the final placings with only Bettina Hoy holding firmly onto her lead from the dressage. Her very low score meant she had a little breathing space over Michael Jung, and coming over the second to last fence, she knew she’d done it.

“Although I knew not much could go wrong then, my actual thought was to finish clear within the time”

After a spectacular weekend, Bettina didn’t only win the CIC3* Meßmer Trophy but also the German Championship title.

“This horse is simply amazing! He has won four international events in a row now, I am so happy!” Bettina planned originally to ride Mickey in the CCI4* but after speaking to the owner, decided to take him round the three-star instead, a decision that definitely paid off.

Bettina’s winning streak started at Blenheim last year when she won her first major title in several years, the CCI3* on Seigneur Medicott (watch their cross country round here) followed by wins in the CIC3* at Chatsworth (watch their cross country round here) and Houghton International (watch their cross country round here)

Michael Jung (GER), who rode Star Connection 9above), a fairly inexperienced horse, which was bred in Luhmühlen, came second after a solid performance through and through. “Star Connection is a fabulous horse and I am so glad that he is back after being injured before. He made a terrific impression this weekend”

“Wolle was certainly glad to be back” according to Sandra Auffarth “He was brilliant in all three phases and you could just tell how much he enjoyed it too. He was focused, and gave me a super feeling in dressage on Friday, in cross-country yesterday, and show jumping today. I cannot fault him in any way”
