It seems that masking-up is a good omen for competition as our ‘pin-up’ girl from Wednesday’s first horse inspection is leading the way in the BEDE CCI2*-L at Osberton International
The Isle of Wight based Sarah Holmes, riding the 14-year-old skewbald Harley Brown, produced a test as eye-catching as Sarah’s mask yesterday to score 25.8, just ahead of Izzy Taylor’s second place score of 25.9 on board Cooley On The Cards and Emily Young-Jamieson in third (26) on OBOS Nidge
New Zealand's James Avery finished yesterday in fourth place on DHI Highlight of the BEDE CCI3*-L section but today he tops the leader board riding Generous DHI, a nine-year-old, bay gelding owned by Heidi Woodhead, on a score of 27.8.
This pair recently won at Richmond and finished ninth at their first CCI3* start at Keysoe International two weeks ago while Mark Davidson riding Highlight K, who took third place in the same class at Keysoe, are currently in second place (28.2) and young Oliver Jackson with Victor Krum is in third (28.5)
The first phase also got underway in the British Eventing Six-Year-Old Championships with dressage held on the lawn with the magnificent backdrop of Thoresby Hall
Piggy March and Cooley Goodwood
Piggy March’s name is to be found yet again leading the field after dressage, this time on Cooley Goodwood in the British Eventing Six-Year-Old Championships with a very strong score of 24.6. Susie Wood’s OBOS Quality 004-sired Cooley Goodwood has had a great season at Novice level, taking three top three placings this year, including a win in the Little Downham (2) Novice in July, as well as a third place in the CCI2*-S at Keysoe International.
The in-form Piggy is also in third place with Cooley Kan Do (31) with Izzy Taylor and Jaeger Master currently holding second (27.8)

Despite heavy rain over night and during the early morning, the ground is holding up well at the venue chosen for its well-draining soil
“With the second day of dressage complete we are delighted with how well the ground is holding up and there have been some fantastic performances throughout” said organiser Stuart Buntine
“The competitors and support teams are in great form and we are looking forward to the final day of dressage tomorrow before cross-country and show jumping gets underway on Saturday”
The first day of dressage in the British Eventing Seven-Year-Old Championships starts tomorrow with Piggy March once again one of the favourites. Piggy will bring forward I Diablo Joe who has been on top form and was also selected for the 2020 World Young Horse Championship at Le Lion but is competing here instead in a section packed with top class combinations ready to gets their ‘Thoresberton’ International competition underway
