The Cotswold Cup, a new Unaffiliated eventing series that started in 2021, is back in 2022 with an exciting announcement
The 2022 Cotswold Cup Championships Final will be held at the picturesque venue of Cirencester Park from the 23rd - 25th September 2022 and will be run as a traditional long-format Three Day Event with both steeplechase and roads and tracks phases
“We cannot think of a more exciting step for the Cotswold Cup than collaborating with world-renowned event organisers Musketeer Event Management (MEM) to bring back the thrill of the long format, three-day event. We have always dreamt of being able to offer this to our competitors and with the knowledge and support of MEM we are able to make this happen” say the organisers of the Cotswold Cup
Senior competitors will enjoy three days of competition with a traditional horse inspection to start the proceedings followed by a long-arena dressage test on Friday 23rd September. The Cross country, including roads and tracks and steeplechase phases, will take place on Saturday 24th September, followed by a second horse inspection, show jumping and a prize giving on Sunday 25th September.
The Junior Championship will take place as a Two Day Event, with their dressage test and show jumping rounds on Saturday 24th and cross country, including roads and tracks and steeplechase phases, and prize giving on Sunday 25th to allow for the fact that schools will be back after the summer break.
By kind permission of The Earl Bathurst and Lord Apsley, the spectacular parkland at Cirencester Park welcomes riders for the fourth year to compete over wonderful courses designed by experienced International Course Designer Alec Lochore.
"We are delighted to have Musketeer Events return for the 2022 eventing season, and we are especially pleased to be hosting the Cotswold Cup Championship in Cirencester Park” says Lord Apsley
The Cotswold Cup is embarking on its second year after a stellar inaugural series in 2021 and is once again providing a collection of “big-occasion” events across the Cotswolds, this time culminating in a thrilling and prestigious Three Day Event Championship.
"The Musketeer team are excited to be working with the Cotswold Cup team in the delivery of the 2022 Cotswold Cup Final" says Alec Lochore "To provide an opportunity to experience the full speed and endurance aspect of a Three Day Event to competitors across these levels, is something we have been working towards for several years and will now be brought to fruition in the beautiful Cirencester Park and we are extremely grateful to The Earl Bathurst and Lord Apsley for their support in this venture.”
Competitors can achieve qualification for the Championships by accumulating points across the nine qualifying legs hosted throughout the Cotswolds (see below for list of qualifiers), which includes another Musketeer event, the iconic Barbury Castle Unaffiliated in July.
Following the qualifiers, the top competitors at each level (80cm, 90cm & 100cm) will qualify for the Championship final at Cirencester Park. And yes, we’ll be filming competitors on course at both Barbury Unaffiliated and the Championship Final at Cirencester Park – we’ll see you there!
