Eventing riders heading south to the sunny climes of Barroca d’Alva usually heralds the start of the eventing season in Europe when Portugal’s international competitions take place in February/March
But in addition to their normal events earlier this year, riders will have the opportunity in 2020 to enter some valuable late season international classes as part of the recently announced Portugal Winter Tour
Full details are yet to be released but the dates have been set as the last two weeks of November and the first week of December, providing the last opportunity in 2020 for athletes and horses to gain the much needed qualifications for international events in 2021, including the Olympics.

“Top riders from across the world, including from New Zealand, Australia, France and the UK, have committed to bringing horses to the Tour” say the organisers, who also see the Winter Tour as a way to improve infrastructure and interest in Portuguese eventing, along with valuable competition opportunities for their locally based riders
