Defending Olympic champion Julia Krajewski and her rising star Nickel will now compete as part of the German team at Paris 2024.
There was a change in the German eventing team shortly before the move from the training camp in Deauville to Paris when Sandra Auffarth's chestnut gelding Viamant du Matz proved not to be 100 percent fit at the final health check on Tuesday evening.
"Up until then, the horse had made a great impression in terms of training and condition but was not quite clear in the last trot. So it was clear to us that the two of them unfortunately could not come to Paris," said German national coach Peter Thomsen.
"That is very sad for us, but of course especially for Sandra, her horse owner and her whole team. We would have liked to have had Sandra Auffarth and Viamant du Matz on the team as team world champions, team vice-European champions and European bronze medalists."
