Arena Saddles Novice League hotting up

Arena Saddles tradestand at BEDE Events horse trials | An Eventful Life
Which saddle would you want to win?

With just three events left for competitors to collect those all-important points for the Arena Saddles Novice League, organised by BEDE Events at various locations around the UK, things are hotting up.

The Arena Saddles Novice League, open to registered members of British Eventing who have not competed at Advanced or CCI3* level in the previous five years, was expanded in 2024 to offer a wider reach of accumulating fixtures.

The three remaining fixtures where points can be gained are Solihull (17th & 18th August), Agria Equine Lifetime Shelford (2) Horse Trials (24th & 25th August) and Sapey (31st Aug &1st Sept) before the big final at Osberton International (2) Horse Trials from 2nd – 6th October where additional points are on offer plus the chance to win a brand-new Arena saddle.

How does it work?

Points are collected through competing at the Arena Saddles Novice events: one point is awarded for starting, one point awarded upon completion; two points for jumping clear in the showjumping phase; and two points for jumping clear (without time penalties) in the cross-country phase.

Those who meet the MER (Minimum Eligibility Requirements) three times can enter the CCI2*-L at Osberton, where there are triple points on offer; six points for clear showjumping, six points for clear cross country (without time penalties), three points for completion and three points for starting. In addition, points will be awarded for placings: 15 points to the winner, 14 points to the runner up, and so on, with 15th place receiving one point.

The Arena Saddles Novice League prize-giving will be held alongside the CCI2*-L prize-giving in the main arena, with all prize winners required to be in attendance and the winner taking home a beautiful new saddle!

Vicky Hind and Blueford Galaxy currently lead the Arena Saddles Novice League with 19 points ahead of Amy Martin riding Peppershake Z (16 points) and George Howard in third (14 points) riding Hawksworth.

We’ll check back after next week’s Shelford Manor (2) and see how things are progressing as we head towards Osberton (2) international ….
