Barbury Castle is hosting another wonderful weekend of grassroots eventing from 11th – 14th July 2024 with riders competing to win two of the sport’s most sought-after qualification tickets – the opportunity to compete in the Championships of the Cotswold Cup, and the chance to reach the Burghley Young Event Horse Championships at the Defender Burghley CCI5*.

The Cotswold Cup is the ‘must win’ eventing series for unaffiliated riders, with a £17,500 prize pot on offer at the Championships hosted at Cirencester Park in September, Barbury’s grassroots eventing and qualifying classes from Friday 12th – Sunday 14th offer valuable opportunities to accrue the points required to make the finals.

The venue also hosting qualifiers for the prestigious Burghley Young Event Horse Championships; open to four and five-year-old horses, these classes are widely acknowledged as ‘the shop window’ to view potential 5* horses at an early age. The winners were decided on the first day of competition with New Zealand's Clarke Johnstone taking the Five-Year-Old Qualifier on board Indigo Blue  before he heads off to Paris 2024 and Isabelle Cook's Billy Everything winning the Four-Year-Old.

For many years the estate has been a popular destination for educating the equine stars of tomorrow, with the likes of Oliver Townend’s Tokyo Olympic team gold medal winning partner, Ballaghmor Class and Kitty King’s European team gold medallist, Vendredi Biats both having won British Eventing classes on the site earlier in their careers.

An Eventful Life will be filming all competitors on cross country in the Grassroots and The Cotswold Cup classes plus wrapping up the competition in our event report afterwards!
