Sadly, there was no Barbury International Horse Trials this year, but the Barbury Estate in Wiltshire is still welcoming eventing riders. This year Barbury Castle is hosting two legs of The Cotswold Cup with the second taking place this week from 14th – 16th July.
For those who have been living under a rock (or an Iron Age Hill Fort), The Cotswold Cup has grown from its start in 2021 to become one of the most popular Unaffiliated Eventing Series in England. With events hosted across the Cotswolds and surrounding areas, the Cotswold Cup qualifiers are open to all, and the annual Series culminates with a £17,000 prize pot on offer at the Championships Final at Cirencester Park in September.
This week sees competitors tackling the 70cm, 80cm, 90cm and 100cm classes from Friday to Sunday with four of the current League leaders as definite ‘ones to watch’ at Barbury (2).
India Rigg riding Doylan Royal Toff is heading up the 70cm League after 1st, 2nd and 6th placings at previous qualifiers; Jack Stancombe riding Watermill will be looking to add yet another 90cm Senior win to the three they have already picked up during the Series so far; Sara Chittleburgh riding Swiss Maid has also had a good run, leading the 100cm Senior League with two firsts and a second and Junior rider Amelia Tait-Oldridge riding Bridgetown Diamond currently has a massive 135 point lead over second place in the 100cm Junior League.
