Barbury International, which this year runs from 4th – 7th July, has a new organising team at the helm in Musketeer Event Management, headed by Alec Lochore

Alec is arguably the most experienced Event Director in the field with previous roles including Eventing Competition Manager at the London 2012 Olympic Games and the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, as well as Event Director of the Longines FEI European Eventing Championships at Blair Castle 2015.

Entries are now open more than 1,000 horse and rider combinations will be competing over the four days, including many of the biggest names in the sport – from five star winners and Olympic medallists to stunning young horses in the early stages of their competitive careers.

Established back in 2005, Barbury Horse Trials has become one of the country’s premier eventing competitions, attracting riders from across the globe. Last year’s winners included long time British team member Nicola Wilson, French favourite Thomas Carlisle, Australian Burghley winner Christopher Burton and this year’s Badminton champion and World Games team gold medallist Piggy French.

There will be some significant changes to the site layout from that of 2018. The idea is to bring everything closer to the centre of the venue and all competitors will (subject to the weather) do their jumping in the Main Arena. As always the cross country course will run over rolling Downland, with much of the course using old turf gallops, promising good going on well-drained chalk land soil. The quality of the going will be treated as utmost priority with the vertidrain machine being used if required and the Willis Brothers have built an exciting, challenging fair track which will be presented to the highest standard.

Come and soak up the atmosphere at one of the most spectacular venues on the eventing circuit – almost all of the challenging cross country course can be viewed from one position, as the fences weave their way around the open Downland bowl – what better reason could there be to pack a picnic and settle down for the day with friends and family?
