Burgham International Horse Trials 2024 – order or view XC Videos here
It’s a packed week of eventing coming up at Burgham International Horse Trials from 24th – 28th July in Northumberland, with an extra day added to the already busy schedule and a CCI4*-S class packed with 5* hot-shots.
In addition to the international eventing classes at CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S and CCI2*-S levels, there are national classes from BE90 to Open Intermediate plus the coveted Dubarry Young Event Horse qualifiers, 6 Year Old and 7 Year Old Horse classes and a Thoroughbreds and Ex-Racehorses show.
With the extra day, CCI3*-S dressage will take place on Wednesday 26th & Thursday 27th July with showjumping and cross country on Friday 28th July. The CCI4*-S dressage will take place on Thursday 27th & Friday 28th July with showjumping and cross country on Saturday 29th July.
The CCI2*-S dressage will take place on Friday 28th & Saturday 29th July with showjumping and cross country phases on Sunday 30th July.
CCI5* of the north
There is a strong line-up of 5* regulars in the CCI4*-S including the man who has won here several times with Oliver Townend riding his Kentucky 5* winner Cooley Rosalent, Scotland’s Wills Oakden riding his 5* horse Arklow Puissance, plus Emily King on Valmy Biats and Tom Jackson on Capels Hollow Drift, who took fourth and fifth places at Badminton CCI5* this year. Australia’s Sophia Hill and Humble Glory, third at Adelaide CCI5* in 2023 are also on the 4* list as is Harry Meade with Away Cruising while his Bramham CCI4*-L winner Annaghmore Valoner will take an easy run at 3* level here.
We’ve spotted another, more recent arrival from Australia in the 3* lists too with Gemma Tinney and PHS Hilton having their first international start in the UK and there are also several New Zealanders in the 4* line-up with Jesse Campbell bringing several horses to Northumberland, including his Tokyo 2020 horse Diachello, Nick Brooks with Lucky Jo Jo and Bundy Philpott with Henton First Lady.
The action all takes place over the weekend of the eventing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games so you can watch not only the real-life action right in front of your eyes (and several riders short listed for the Games!) but also the Paris 2024 cross country on the big screen on Sunday.
An Eventful Life is filming all competitors on cross country during Burgham International, so we’ll be back with some great footage and reports after the event plus keep an eye out on social media for video snippets!
