“A huge thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way” says Douglas Crawford who took a win at Alnwick Ford (2) Horse Trials, his first competition after breaking vertebrae in his back in early 2023.

It has been a difficult season for Douglas Crawford, who finally was back at competition last week at Alnwick Ford (2) Horse Trials, after breaking vertebrae in his back at his first event of the year.

25 weeks on and Douglas, who is based in Scottish Borders, took two horses to Alnwick Ford (2); Who’s The Daddy who took eighth place in his first event in five years and James Lad, owned by Gillian Shearer, who won the BE90 Open on his dressage score of 27.3.

“We’re back!!” says a delighted Douglas on social media “To be able to leave the start box again on Sunday was an amazing feeling”

“It’s been some year for me with lots of tough challenges, but it’s been my love of horses and passion for eventing that has driven me on to get back to the sport. There are so many people to thank throughout this whole season. British Eventing Support Trust have helped me with my recovery and trauma of the accident providing access to Sporting Minds and Border Physio Clinic.”

Well done Douglas and congratulations!
