The defending British Intermediate champion Tom McEwen has started well at the 2019 Magic Millions Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe Park.
Tom leads the Smith & Williamson British Intermediate Championship riding Barbara Cooper’s Dreamaway ll on a score of 27.2, just overtaking Julie Lawson and Faerlie Similar who led in the morning with a score of 27.8. A handful of riders are still left to complete their Intermediate dressage phase tomorrow
Tom also won the Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse 5-Year-Old qualifier on Mr and Mrs Fred Barker’s MHS Pop Star, topping off a great day for Gatcombe-based rider who was named as part of the squad to defend Britain’s European Championship gold medal in Luhmuhlen, Germany later this month.
The winner of the Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse 4-Year-Old class qualifier was Stephen Heal on Zoe Day and CG Eventing’s Klabatsoe.
Tina Cook and David Cricket
Also named on the British squad, Tina Cook currently heads the RoR/NTF Retrained Racehorse Event Championship riding David Cricket while Izzy Taylor leads the Dodson & Horrell British Novice Championship on Springwind Vangelis with a mark of 28, just 0.3 ahead of William Fox-Pitt, holder of a record 16 national titles at Gatcombe Park, riding Graffenacht and young Melissa Joannides riding Patch Ali (28.4)
The TopSpec Challenge for the Corinthian Cup, a restricted Novice Championship, provides a great opportunity for amateur riders to compete at Gatcombe Park. Following the first phase of competition, Saskia Davies riding Singing Usk leads the class with a score of 26.3 with Alice Rocher riding Dassett Supreme close behind on 26.5 - more to come from Alice soon ....
