One of the highlights of the British autumn eventing season, Osberton International Horse Trials incorporating the Caunton Manor Stud British Eventing Young Horse Championships is on this week from 2nd – 6th October and there are a few minor changes to the timetable due to weather conditions
The recent spate of bad weather and a forecast for heavy rain in the area on Tuesday has prompted some changes but the weather outlook is looking good for later in the week and the ground has benefited from the rain
“The ground at Osberton is looking great” says BEDE Events “Thanks to a bit of rain it is looking very green and lush. However, we are due a lot of rain early in the week especially on Tuesday so we ask riders to please allow plenty of time to get to Osberton and unload, especially if you are trotting horses up. Please bear with us when you get to site, as we have a lot of lorries to get in, and so we want to minimise the damage as much as possible. However, the weather is looking great for the end of the week”
The first horse inspection usually takes place on Tuesday but, in view of the weather forecast, all horses will now trot up on Wednesday from 2pm as the site will be closed on Tuesday 1st with no vehicles or horseboxes allowed access. In view of the change, riders who were scheduled to do their dressage test on Wednesday have now been rescheduled for Thursday and Friday.
“We apologise for the inconvenience” say BEDE “But this will enable us to hopefully combat the severe weather on Tuesday and be up and rolling first thing Wednesday morning”

The British Young Event Horse Championships hosted at Osberton International Horse Trials is this year sponsored by Caunton Manor Stud and some of the best young eventing horses in the country will be among those rolling up. These horses, that have qualified at events through the year, will compete at BE90 and BE100 level for four and five-year-old horses respectively through to CIC1* for six year olds and CIC2* level for seven year old horses and four new National Young Horse Champions will be crowned
Driving fans can also get their fix of adrenaline with this fast and furious equestrian sport taking place at Osberton for the first time this year when the Bennington Carriages Driving Trial competition takes place on Saturday and Sunday.
Osberton is also well known for its non-equestrian activities during the day and evening, starting with the Riders Welcome Party, sponsored by British Polo Gin, on Wednesday night which will see the launch of the brand new British Eventing Gin (oh goody!) and a chance to test your shooting skills in the laser clay pigeon shooting alley in the bar.
On Friday night an EQuestrian of Sport is back with the Drivers against the Eventers and the week winds up with the Last Night party on Saturday
We’re praying that the weather becomes as dry as the new British Eventing Gin and we’ll see you there!
