The South of England cross country courses, designed by Scott Brickell, run over the showground and adjoining farmland at the South of England Showground in Ardingly, Sussex and provide three separate tracks for BE100, Novice and Intermediate classes
The BE100 and Novice classes, mainly run on Saturday, are suitable for young horses while the Sunday sees many big names ready to blow the cobwebs away on their top horses, some of them headed to Badminton, in the Intermediate and Advanced Intermediate classes.
Last year Tom Jackson went away with a win each day at the South of England (1), winning the Novice Section G riding Star Dragon on Saturday and the Open Intermediate on Sunday riding Ros Canter’s Pencos Crown Jewel
Tom and Pencos Crown Jewel finished ahead of Georgia Bartlett riding Spano De Nazcar and his mentor Pippa Funnell on MGH Grafton Street, the combination that went on to win the CCI5* at Burghley later in the year
Pippa, whose mother Jenny and brother Tim run this event, also mentors Max Warburton who is part of the 2020 Windrush Foundation Young Eventers Programme
Max enjoyed a win at the South of England (1) last year, taking the Open Intermediate Under 21 on board Samarkand and this is how they did it ….
