Fingers crossed, the worst of the EHV-1 outbreak is now behind us in mainland Europe and International eventing has resumed with competitions taking place in various countries last weekend.
Strzegom, Poland
Strzegom has a busy schedule of events this year but its first international show of the year had to be postponed until now due to EHV-1.
The Strzegom Spring Open saw 150 athletes from 14 countries competing with 250 horses but it was the Dutch rider Jordy Wilken riding the 15-year-old Burry Spirit who took the CCI4*-S honours. They moved up from 31st to 15th after the dressage thanks to a clear show jumping round then he took the win with a clear cross-country ride with the fastest ride of the class.
Second place went to the leader after jumping – German rider Andreas Dibowski aboard FRH Corrida and Katrin Khoddam-Hazrati (AUT) was third with DSP Cosma

The winner of the CCI3*-S class was Alina Dibowski (GER) with Polish-bred Barbados 26. Second place went to Kamil Rajnert (POL) with Emilia of Chin, and third to the father of the winner – Andreas Dibowski riding Calahari.
North Holland Horse Trials
The North Holland Horse Trials run at the grounds of Manege Beukers and the Geestmerambacht Recreation Area in Oudkarspel from 16th – 18th April saw another Dutch rider take the honours ahead of Germany.
The Netherlands’ Tim Lips won one of the top classes, the CCI3*-S, on board TMX Herby ahead of Germany’s Dirk Schrade but it was Germany’s Calvin Bockman who took the CCI3*-L riding Altair De La Cense
Gut Weiherhof Eventing, Germany
At the same time in Germany, Michael Jung took 12 horses to Gut Weiherhof Eventing 2021 and all twelve jumped clear!
Michael won the CCI3*-S on fischerChipmunk ahead of another of his horses, fischerWild Wave while Julia Krajewski took third place on Amande De B’Neville
Ingrid Klimke was competing and took fourth place in this class on SAP Hale Bob but it was her daughter and German National Junior Champion, Greta Busacker who claimed the CCI2*-S riding Scrabble and Michael had to settle for second place on Kilcandra Ocean Power. One of Michael’s team riders Pietro Grandis took third on Fortune III
It was a big week for Michael and his long time partner Faye Füllgraebe who, a few days later, enjoyed some time off for their wedding
