The first FEI Nations Cup Eventing has completed at Wiener Neustadt in Austria and to the delight of the home crowd, Team Austria (Charlotte Dobretsberger, Margit Appelt, Rebecca Gerold and Manfred Rust) were on the podium at their first ever participation in the team CICO3* competition
Once again Germany took the top spot ahead of the Netherlands and Austria in third place while Britain’s Georgie Spence won the individual competition. Georgie and her 12 year old Halltown Harley jumped a clear show jumping round to finish on a score of 59.60, over 10 penalties ahead of second placed Jan Van Beek of the Netherlands while Germany’s Felix Etzel took third place on Bandit 436
Germany not only took top place in the teams competition but also helped the silver and bronze winning teams thanks to the German riders Bettina Hoy and Andreas Ostholt who train the Dutch and Austrian teams. Bettina commented on her Facebook page that she was very proud of her team, especially as three of the riders finished in the top 12 – a very good start to Bettina’s team training!
Winners! Georgie Spence and Halltown Harley
The British team finished out of contention with only Alice Dunsdon’s Sambo (11th) and winner Georgie Spence completing as Kirtsy Johnstone and Opposition Detective were sadly eliminated on the final day
But it was Georgie Spence who was over the moon with the biggest win of her career so far saying
“Halltown Harley confirms what I believed that he is truly amazing! We only went win the CIC*** in Austria!!!! I love him!”
Austria’s Charlotte Dobretsberger was also delighted with fifth place in the individual ranking, especially as this was the first 3* competition for her 8 year old horse Vally K
"My horse was just super. She did a great job in her first 3-star competition. A great horse!"
The FEI Nations Cup competition now moves to the other side of the world with horses from the UK and Canada already settled in for the CICO3* at The Plains next weekend, giving Britain a chance to pick up more points to keep them on top of the Nations Cup leader board
