In a change to the scheduled location, the 2020 British Eventing Five-Year-Old Championship will now take place at Oasby (2) Horse Trials (24th – 25th October 2020).

The class, run at BE100 level, is part of the British Eventing National Championships which also encompasses championship classes for six- and seven-year-olds. Due to COVID-19 it was announced in August that the 2020 BE Young Horse Championships and Osberton International Horse Trials would move from Osberton House to Thoresby Park for this year only.

As the Five-Year-Old Championship hosts fewer combinations than the international classes, the organisers, in conjunction with British Eventing, felt it sensible to move the 2020 Five-Year-Old Championship to Oasby (2), who already run classes at BE100 level.

BEDE’s Stuart Buntine commented: “It is sad that we are unable to include the Five-Year-Old Championship at Thoresby Park despite everyone’s best efforts but in this turbulent year the change of venue and other constraints mean it just isn’t possible. We will work hard to ensure the 5YO Championship has an exciting feel at Oasby and look forward to uniting all the Young Horse classes at Osberton in 2021.”

Jude Matthews, BE CEO, commented: “We thank our members and organisers for their understanding of the flexibility that our sport resumption calendar has required. This has allowed us to run a really successful schedule of events this season and ensure as much competition opportunity as possible.

“The Six- and Seven-Year-Old Championship, along with the CCI2*-S and CCI3*-S classes, will remain at Thoresby Park, from 7th to 11th October, and gives organisers, BEDE Events, a great opportunity to run international classes ahead of their inaugural event, The Eventing Spring Carnival, in 2021, after its sad cancellation this year.”

Competitors that have entered the Five-Year-Old Championship already will receive a full refund and can then re-enter the Championship at Oasby (2). Entries for Oasby (2), including the Five-Year-Old Championship, open on 25 September.
