Oliver Townend and Izzy Taylor have backed up their wins at Burnham Market International last week with wins in the Intermediate sections at Kelsall Hill (2) in Cheshire on Friday
Oliver took the Open Intermediate Section H riding MHS King Joules, leading after the dressage with a score of 24.8 and adding just 1.2 time faults on the Captain Mark Phillips designed cross country course to win ahead of Rose Nesbitt riding EG Michealangelo (28.6) and Angus Smales on A Bit Much (30)
France’s Arthur Duffort won the Intermediate Section G riding Brando De Cherel but it was Izzy and Oliver all the way in the two other Intermediate sections.
Izzy Taylor and Happy Days
Izzy won both the Intermediate Section F on board Happy Days, who recently won at Richmond (2) earlier this month and now heads to Osberton International at Thoresby in the CCI3*-L on very good form, rolling a pole in the show jumping but making up for it by producing the fastest time of the class on cross country with just two time penalties to finish on 35.1, ahead of Oliver riding Innislusky Paddy who had a better dressage score of 25.7 but a more sedate cross country time to add 9.6 penalties and finish on 35.3.
Will Rawlin riding Ballycoog Breaker Boy beat both of them in the dressage (as did fourth placed Robyn Gray riding Harrison IV who led after the dressage on a score of 22.1) but finished on 38.8 for third place
Izzy also won the Intermediate Section E on Romantic (28.6) and it was Oliver’s turn to produce the fastest cross country in this section for second place riding Glamour Girl (30.1). Hayden Hankey and Fools In Love, who is heading to Mondial Du Lion next month, scored a very good 22.5 in the dressage but added 7.6 time penalties on cross country for third place and again it was the fourth placed combination, Ros Canter and Izilot DHI, another horse selected for Le Lion, who produced the stand out dressage test for a score of 19.3. They too opted for a slower cross country, maybe with the end goal of Le Lion in mind, and added 11.2 time penalties (30.5)
Another six-year-old horse selected for Le Mondial Du Lion, Ballingowan Leia ridden by Polly Stockton, took second place in the Open Novice D on their dressage score of 25.5 but it was Sally James riding Regal Mix that took the win, also on their dressage score of 24.

Sally also took third place in the Novice Section B riding Satyr (26.9) behind Aimee Penny riding PSH Encore (24.8) and Sam Ecroyd riding Chapel House (24) while it was Sam’s turn to take third in the Novice Section B on Harhill Bahri (32.5) behind Amy Ross on Cians Boy (31.3) and the winner, Sophie Brown on SBE Navigo (30.4)
Sarah Cairns won the Novice Section A riding Ballyblood Sinbad on their dressage score of 29.3
