Competition got underway under sunny skies at Lincolnshire Horse Trials on Friday with eight of the sections competing at BE100 and Novice levels
Piggy March kicked off the event with two wins, one in the BE100 Section B on Brookfield Kept In The Darco and the other on Dassett Arthalent in the Open Novice Section F, with both horses backing up their wins at Oasby (1) last weekend.
It is an impressive way to start the season and Piggy will be hoping that her three big guns – Brookfield Inocent, Vanir Kamira and Brookfield Quality – will carry on the trend in the Open Intermediate classes on Sunday
Piggy’s past pupil, Susie Berry won the Section H on Drumnavaddy Valencia as well as taking third and fourth placings in the Novice Section G, won by Emilie Chandler on another ‘sparkling’ horse, Loughton Diamond.
Yasmin Ingham also has horses in the big classes on Sunday but has started with a win here in the BE100 Section D on Goliath Du Loir and local World Champion (if there can be such a thing!) Ros Canter won the BE100 Section C on Parklodge Side By Side as well as taking second place on DHI Rock Dancer behind Piggy in the BE100 Section B
Shelley Goodwin riding Explosion VMH won the BE100 Open Section A on their very good dressage score of 22.8 and Sarah Way won the BE100 Open Section B on Ditchford Explorer
Three more BE100 and Novice sections will be on course tomorrow along with the Pony Trial (with eyes on the prize at the British Pony Championships at Belsay in June) followed by a big ‘pre-Badminton feel’ Sunday
