Five sections of BE100 and two sections of Novice classes took to the Joe Weller designed cross country course at Lincolnshire Horse Trials on Friday and, although the classes may have been at the lower levels, there were plenty of top names on the winners’ lists.
Izzy Taylor, Ros Canter and Oliver Townend were among the winners with Izzy taking the BE100 Section B on Chilled Guy, a five-year-old Irish bred gelding, Oliver Townend winning the BE100 Section B on Star Buster, a five-year-old by Ramiro B, and Ros Canter taking the top place in the Novice Section F with Parklodge Side By Side.
It is always interesting to see these guys out with their young horses and keep an eye on their four-legged talent coming up. Ros’ six-year-old mare Parklodge Side By Side, owned by Sharon Bayston, is by Diarado, the top eventing stallion on the 2022 FEI WBFSH Eventing Rankings, also the sire of Laura Collett’s Dacapo and Nicola Wilson’s JL Dublin, now ridden by Tom McEwen.
This is Parklodge Side By Side’s win here at Lincolnshire; last year she won a BE100 section here and then went on to a Novice section at Burnham Market (1) International.
But she isn’t the only talented youngster in Ros’ stable. Ros also picked up second and third places in BE100 sections with another mare, Silvesters Finesse, who showed lots of promise in 2022, winning the 5 Year Old class at Little Downham (1) amongst others, and Accelerando, who was also a winner at Burnham Market and Aston-Le-Walls last year
Lucinda Atkinson and Take A Bow
Lucinda Atkinson won the BE100 Section A on the aptly named Take A Bow, finishing on their dressage score of 29.8 but it was a tightly fought win ahead of William Pittendrigh riding Kilmastulla Mr Brooks on a score of 30.
Lizzie Baugh had her first start on a new horse, Piltown Concorde, to take the win in the BE100 Open Section D (a very nice way to start a partnership) while Annabel Finston riding the very experienced Vendome Biats, previously ridden at 4* level by Tom Crisp and now enjoying a quieter life, won the BE100 Open Section E
Lizzie Baugh's first competition, and win, on Piltown Concorde
Mary Edmundson riding Liberty 26 took the Novice Section G and there will be more Novices and BE100 classes on Saturday, along with the Pony Trial Section, before the big Advanced Intermediate day on Sunday
We’ll be back with more updates each day ....
