Oasby (1)
Run over flat ground in one valley and on free draining soil, it is rare for the eventing at Oasby (1) to be cancelled even though it is one of the first events of the British Eventing season, but it fell foul of the ‘Beast from the East’ in 2018 when Bede Events was forced to cancel the weekend classes and run competition on just Thursday and Friday (read our wrap up report here)
However, Oasby is usually a perfect venue for the beginning and end of season events in March and October held at Foxdale near Grantham in Lincolnshire and is a popular fixture on the calendar for riders from all levels of the sport. World Number One Oliver Townend is a regular, as is WEG Gold medallist Piggy French, and they both went away with wins here in 2018 to start the season
Riders at lower levels, including the younger ones with a BE100 Open U18 and an Open Intermediate Under 21, are well catered for and the Pony Trial winner will this year receive a special prize from the Worshipful Company of Saddlers.
There will be some changes and additions made to the course in 2019 by course designers Stuart Buntine and Judith Shipton that will include the Intermediate loop.
