Have a drink on Jeremy Clarkson at BEDE Events
The team at BEDE Events may need a drink or two at the moment, with snow causing the cancellation of the first two days of Oasby (1), their first competition of the year.
But luckily, they have just brought on board the perfect sponsor, a drinks company owned by a man that has moved from one mode of horsepower to another – Jeremy Clarkson
Hopefully, weather permitting, Oasby (1) will run its scheduled classes on Saturday and Sunday and have re-scheduled a day of Open Intermediate and Intermediate classes to Monday, when Jeremy Clarkson has an offer on tap
In a letter to Oasby (1) competitors, Jeremy Clarkson wrote “As a compensation for your bravery - or is it lunacy? Should things not go to plan this weekend and you get eliminated or fall off I will offer you a free case of beer, cider, or vodka to drown your sorrows.”
In fact, competitors across all BEDE Events will reap the rewards of a new drinks partner, as Jeremy Clarkson’s Hawkstone pledges their support for the 2023 season.
The premium British lager and cider brand, that sees a brilliant collaboration between Farmer and Brewer, will be the official ‘watering hole’ sponsor at all BEDE Events throughout the 2023 British Eventing season, with competitors able to claim very Clarksonesque prizes throughout the season.
Well, things certainly have not gone to plan so far at Oasby (1), but a bit of Clarkson humour may cheer things up
Jeremy’s understanding of eventing (“a sport in which competitors wear unseemly trousers originally modelled by the younger son of the Maharaja of Jodhpur in the 1890’s”) may be limited. But he does recognise the shared passion for the British countryside between those in the equestrian, and specifically eventing, industry, and with what he is trying to do at Diddly Squat Farm.
“What I do recognise is that all you eventers do indeed share a great passion of mine, that is the British countryside … preserving it, nurturing it and making the most of it. That’s what I am trying to do at Diddly Squat Farm where I am growing the spring barley and wheat to make my Hawkstone lager and Vodka. And that’s what you do caring for and competing your horses in our great British countryside.”
Stuart Buntine, Director of BEDE Events, may be busy shovelling snow at the moment but he knows the good times will come again, saying “At BEDE we’re all for celebrating the sport and having a little fun along the way, and the new Hawkstone partnership relationship does just that – drown your sorrows or toast your successes!”
Hawkstone Lager and Cider will be available to sample and purchase at The Eventing Spring Carnival, at Thoresby Park from the 31st March – 2nd April. Tickets are still available to purchase via www.bede-events.co.uk
Competitors will also be able to claim 10% off their first purchase of any of Clarkson’s lagers, vodka or Kaleb’s delicious cider, by registering at Hawkstone.co and using BEDE as a discount code.
